About Lane

Lane is a versatile and compelling artist whose journey has been anything but typical.  Raised in a family of musicians, Lane started singing at their jam sessions as a child.  Her formal vocal training began at age 9.  She got an early start in the studio, recording demos for local musicians, including her songwriting mother.  She soon found her way to the stage, and began what would be a 20+ year career as a professional singer/actor in opera, musical theater and theater.  Highlights from her many roles include Eliza in “My Fair Lady” at Lyric Opera Cleveland, Lily in “The Secret Garden” at Civic Theater, Orlando,  Josephine in “HMS Pinafore” at Ohio Light Opera,  Laura in “The Glass Menagerie” at Seaside Music Theater,  and the title role in “Antigone” at the West End Theater in NYC. She also performed extensively in recital and oratorio, as a soloist in Handel’s “Messiah”, and was winner of the Columbus Symphony Young Artist Competition.  She attended both Baldwin-Wallace College and Cincinnati Conservatory of Music (CCM) where she graduated with a degree in Vocal Performance.

Lane also has a vast background as a voice teacher and arts educator, having taught a variety of programs and master-classes for such institutions as The Metropolitan Opera Guild and The Conservatory of Performing Arts. She also served as vocal coach for Charles Mee’s First Love at New York Theater Workshop.  Over the past 15 years, she has maintained a private vocal studio, as both voice teacher and performance coach, in addition to developing educational programs for private and public schools, implementing the arts as tools to enhance learning and curriculum.

Although her early career led her to the stage, her deeper passions took her into new, yet ancient and innovative territories, with a rich study of native drumming and world music, sound and vibrational therapy, and other healing modalities, including Reiki and Jin-Shin Jyutsu.   She incorporates much of these practices into her work and teaching, and continues to pursue ways to marry the performing and healing arts.

Lane also works with expectant mothers, introducing the use of sound and vibrational therapy for pre and post-natal care.  She created “Birth Muse”, a pre-natal class for LILA Women’s Wellness Center in lower Manhattan, and also collaborates with mid-wives and doulas , teaching sound and vibrational techniques in childbirth classes and with private clients.

As a studio vocalist and session singer, Lane’s recent and upcoming credits include several releases with ACM records for composer Matt LoRey, one of which is featured in the independent film “Indy”.  New releases with Dream Box Media on Matt’s forthcoming album “Winter Poems”.   Two releases on Main Man records with The Parkway Charlies:  “Dragon Attack” on Horsefeathers and Animal Crackers: A Tribute to Queen and “Ten Minutes” on The Winter Hours, “A Few Uneven Rhymes”, also featuring tracks by Gordon Gano of the Violent Femmes and Matthew Caws of Nada Surf.  Backing vocals on “4:04” with The Parkway Charlies on Shout! Factory as a bonus release for the album “Ciao My Shining Star – The Songs of Mark Mulcahy”, former front man of The Miracle Legion and also featuring tracks by Thom York, Michael Stipe of REM and Dinasaur Jr.  Backing vocals on The Thousand Pities debut album “Believe in Sound”, to be released March 2011.  Sound therapy vocals and native drumming for “Pre-Natal Peace and Calming”, featured in the September 2008 issue of Pregnancy Magazine.

As a singer/songwriter, Lane has been hard at work writing and performing her original music at a variety of venues in NYC and surrounding areas including The National Underground and The Metropolitan Room.

Lane lives in the New York City area with her husband, Jim and son, Myles.
